Review: Psych Episode 5.03
67Psych tries to find out what really happened the night a client claims his co-worker was abducted by aliens. Freddie Prinze, Jr. guest stars as a childhood friend.
Overall: Another great episode. Didn't go too far with something that had the potential to be ridiculous. Not enough Juliet and Lassiter.

Recap
- Roy, a local lawyer, watches as an associate as his firm is abducted by aliens. When he reports this to the police the next morning, the only people who believe him are Shawn and Gus. They hear a recording Roy took of the UFO and decide to take it to an old friend who was obsessed with aliens when they were kids (Dennis, played by Freddie Prinze, Jr.). There was also a large circle burned into Roy's yard.
- Dennis is hiding his alien obsession from his wife, who likes jocks. He has a secret compartment in his office filled with memorabilia from sci-fi movies. After hearing the recording, he believes the noises were made by some crazy-specific type of UFO. He taps into the previous night's air traffic and sees a large circle of heat floating toward Roy's house.
- Roy does an interview about the "abduction" and says Psych believes his story. Shawn and Gus are ridiculed by the police department, and Henry asks why they didn't listen to him when he said not to take the case. If they had investigated, they would have seen that Roy is a conspiracy theorist - a decade ago he claimed he saw another alien and he was currently filing a lawsuit against a large oil company claiming their chemical spill wasn't an accident (let the BP theories begin).
- Toby, the associate Roy saw abducted, shows up at the police station. He says he took a cab home because his car stalled and he turned off his cell phone. Shawn starts to believe Toby staged the whole thing to make Roy look crazy - he has been suspended pending psychological evaluation, and his cases have been given to Toby.
- Shawn and Gus tail Toby but he runs off when he sees them. He calls Shawn asking for help, unaware that he was the one following him (he was wearing a Battlestar Gallactica helmet at the time). He also admits that Roy was telling the truth - right before he jumps off a building and lands right in front of Shawn and Gus, dead.
- Toby's death has all the signs of suicide, but the coroner found a flash drive inside Toby's stomach that was swallowed right before he died. It is full of information about the suit against the oil company. Shawn realizes Toby meant Roy was right about the chemical spill, not the aliens.
- Shawn and Gus go to an address indicated in the flash drive to find it was purchased by the oil company. Right as Shawn puts the pieces together, the UFO Roy saw appears and seems to be landing. Once on the ground, the lights go off and it is shown to be a helicopter with the oil company CEO inside. He points a gun at the Psych boys and tells them to get inside.
- At a nearby warehouse Shawn recaps what the oil company was doing. The CEO assumed the best way to get rid of Roy was to make him seem crazy, and staged the alien encounter. The company discovered oil on private property and didn't want to split the profits. The chemical spill was an excuse to buy the land and start drilling.
- Someone claiming to have a pizza delivery knocks - Dennis. He pulls out nunchucks and takes out the guards while Shawn grabs one of their guns. Dennis hits himself in the face, and can't see when Juliet and Lassiter arrive. Lassiter screams "Hands in the air!" and ends up tazing Dennis when he doesn't comply.
- Shawn, Gus, Dennis, and Roy hang out in Dennis's secret room playing video games and talking about aliens. Dennis's wife walks in, obviously shocked. She tells him she is upset not because he isn't a jock, but because she love Battlestar Galactica and had to hide it from him for years.
Dule Hill and James Roday from Psych.
Ups and Downs
Ups
- Freddie Prinze Jr. was hilarious. They're really making their way through the "She's All That" cast. Next: Paul Walker.
- Lassiter bragging that Psych screwed up (dance and all) only to get proved wrong in the end (as usual).
- I always enjoy when they use supernatural ideas in the storylines. Scared Gus is awesome.
- Shawn still believes in Bigfoot.
- Tying in the oil spill.
Downs
- Not enough Juliet. Now that Abigail is out of the picture, there's no reason to her and Shawn apart. Unfortunately we'll probably have to wait until the midseason finale for the big kiss.
- Not enough of the secondary characters from the police department.
